The anticipation is over! Joomla-SMF Forum 1.0 Beta 1 (aka MSF 1.3.2 Beta 2) is now ready for download. There's a lot of exciting changes to make this component easier to install than it was. This release is for Mambo 4.5.2.x, Joomla 1.0.x, and SMF 1.1.x only. SMF 1.0.5 users should continue using the Mambo-SMF Forum 1.3.1.3.
Easy Installation and Configuration, In No Time! One of the major changes is the removal of the SMF Mambo MOD. This mod is used to be installed via SMF Manager. For some reason, some users get confused by this, specially those new Joomla (mambo) users, therefore it's gone! All that's needed is install and configure the component! Your Joomla and SMF will be bridged in no time! It can be installed, upgraded, or uninstalled leaving no mess! Features: - Just one step, easy installation!
- No more need to hassle with the SMF Package Manager!
- Utilizes SMF's integration functions.
- Simple and straight-forward bridge, utilizes existing Joomla and SMF functions (NOT a duplicated SMF or Joomla code within the component).
- Works with the default Joomla or CB login module.
- Works on SEO or non SEO mode (SEF).
- Works wrapped and unwrapped.
- User can login from Joomla or SMF.
- User is redirected back to the topic when they login from Joomla.
- Profile modification is reflected in Joomla user table.
- Dynamic title.
- Topic title is added in Meta Description.
- Topic title is extracted into keywords and added in Meta Keywords.
- No more copyright violation, SMF copright text left as it is.
- and more...!
Detailed Installation Instruction: - Download SMF from SimpleMachines.org.
- Install SMF on the same database as Joomla.
- Extract the Joomla-SMF Forum package:
* com_joomla_smf_forum_1.0.zip - (main component) * mod_smf_login_optional.zip - (optional login module) * mod_smf_recent_topics.zip - (optional recent topics module) - Install first the component and setup the configuration (follow the INSTALLATION CHECKLIST).
- After that, you may choose to install the optional login module to make use of the extra configurable links option. If you do this, uninstall the default Joomla login module.
- Then install the optional recent topics module.
Upgrade Instruction: Uninstall the previous component and the MamboSMF Mod. Note: Some of the older modules might not work with this version (e.g. Discussbot). The reason is, the require SSI.php needs to be in the module code. This part of the code caused havoc for joomla if it's in Joomla's index.php file. We will modify those modules when we get a chance. Remember, this is BETA. Although this component is now installed in this website and on the demo site, I suggest that you guys test it first before you make an upgrade. Donation: If you like this component, a little donation will help for the improvement and continuous development of this component. If you like to donate, just click the donate button from the frontpage. Thank you. -Cowboy.
