Joomla TipsWhen I was starting with Joomla, my first struggle was how to change the frontpage article column size to single column. It took me a week to figure out that it can be done on the menu configuration. Well, those are the times when I was really lazy to navigate through Joomla's admin. This tip will aid new users on how change article column size on the frontpage.

By default, the frontpage article is configured to display 1 leading article, 2 columns, and 5 links. Look at the figure below:

The default Joomla frontpage article display configuration.

To change the default, just follow the followng steps:

STEP 1:

Click mainmenu from Joomla Administrator Menu menu.
Click mainmenu from Joomla Administrator Menu menu.

STEP 2:

Click Home item from the main menu links.
Click Home item from the main menu links.

STEP 3:

Set the Leading, Intro, Columns, and Links values.
Set the Leading, Intro, Columns, and Links values.

Like JoomlaHacks.com, if you want a single column on the frontpage, just set the following values:

Leading = 1
Intro = 4
Colums = 1
Links = 5

Or you can also set
Leading = 0
Intro = 5

This setting will display 5 article's intro on a single columns and 5 more article links below.

NOTE:  This configuration is not only available in the "Home" (frontpage), but also for all pages such as blog sections etc.

Thank you!! : jbmix
I too am fairly new to this whole marvelous new Joomla world, and I've been trying to figure this out for a while now. This tip is the best thing I've found. I would love to see more items like this start to replace the incomplete info in the Joomla Manual section.

I encourage you to start a blog section with more tips like this one, for dummies like me!

Thanks! I've been searching for that option as well. I wanted just one column on my front page because it simplifies things for my registered users - title lengths and image widths, you know how it can all go wrong if an article ends up in one of those narrow columns... images/cheesy.gif
