Are you using version 1.3.1.3? Just upgrade your SMF to version 1.1 RC1 and use Joomla-SMF 1.0.1b. Version 1.0.1b is compatible with Mambo 4.5.2.x therefore you don't need to upgrade Mambo to Joomla.
