I know you mentioned that the discuss bot would not work with the latest version of Joomla-smf (1.0.1) but here is the error message I get when I try to use it;
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/mymacpa/public_html/home/mambots/content/smf.discussbot.php on line 25
I'm getting the same error, and from what I've found thru searching on the net, it looks like most people have this problem if they're using Joomla 1.0.2 (and possibly 1.0.1), along with SMF 1.0.X (i'm using 1.0.5), bridged with Mambo-SMF Forum v.1.3.1.3 and trying to use the smf.discussbot mambot (latest version). I got the same error, so I had to uninstall smf.discussbot in order to view my portal page again. I looked into the code a bit, but admittedly I don't have a ton of experience with PHP. What it looks like to me is some difference in setQuery arguments between the old Mambo build and the new Joomla build, which I heard about at http://www.open4g.com/content/view/19/2/. Hope that helps And I hope you can come out with a fix soon! Thanks for developing this great component!!!!
In Ako they allow you to post as "guest".. to duplicate this behavior, will SMF allow guests to post on ONE specific board? I took a quick look in the settings and couldn't find this.
I prefer using comment rather than discussbot... that's why I did not prioritize fixing it... But don't worry, i will work on it for 1.0.2 like i said.
The only con in comment is that visitors tend to start discussions and ask question in it.
