Discuss Bot Error
« on: October 03, 2005, 06:15:02 AM »

I know you mentioned that the discuss bot would not work with the latest version of Joomla-smf (1.0.1) but here is the error message I get when I try to use it;

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/mymacpa/public_html/home/mambots/content/smf.discussbot.php on line 25

Hope it helps with your debugging of the mambot.

I'm getting the same error, and from what I've found thru searching on the net, it looks like most people have this problem if they're using Joomla 1.0.2 (and possibly 1.0.1), along with SMF 1.0.X (i'm using 1.0.5), bridged with Mambo-SMF Forum v.1.3.1.3 and trying to use the smf.discussbot mambot (latest version).  I got the same error, so I had to uninstall smf.discussbot in order to view my portal page again.  I looked into the code a bit, but admittedly I don't have a ton of experience with PHP.  What it looks like to me is some difference in setQuery arguments between the old Mambo build and the new Joomla build, which I heard about at http://www.open4g.com/content/view/19/2/.  Hope that helps  Undecided  And I hope you can come out with a fix soon!  Thanks for developing this great component!!!!

Hey while on the subject of discussbot...

What are the pros/cons of using discussbot to link articles to your forums, versus a comments system, such as AkoComment?

Two big "pros" in my opinion are how clean and integrated it looks AND having all comments in one place.

Any cons? I can't really think of any.

In Ako they allow you to post as "guest".. to duplicate this behavior, will SMF allow guests to post on ONE specific board?  I took a quick look in the settings and couldn't find this.

I prefer using comment rather than discussbot... that's why I did not prioritize fixing it...  Grin But don't worry, i will work on it for 1.0.2 like i said.

The only con in comment is that visitors tend to start discussions and ask question in it.

Great, look forward to this fix. AkoComment is really nice, but I'd like to keep everything "in one place".

 Cool

I find discussbot bettter for these guys who just look on the forums, as the news/comments apperar there as new posts, so they are forced to read them  Wink
