yeah  Smiley should be fixed, i just tested it. can u check permissions whether the old files are not retained in your installation. To verify it, look for "userID" in smf.php.

About syncing, it only sync if the account is not on the other system. Since the account with blank email is both in Joomla and SMF already, it's not going to sync. Unless you remove the user in the other system.

OK great, I'll test this out in about an hour - searched for string "userID" in smf.php and it is indeed NOT there! (strange, I did make sure there are no traces of com_smf directory anywhere)

about syncing, I will try deleting the user in J! and let it re-sync the blank name and email

I'm getting an issue with deleting Joomla users and SMF not syncing the changes, see here:

changing admin's name

new issue here...

changed admin username in SMF to "test", got the email notification with new password etc. logged in, and changed my password, but the change of name did not get sync'd to Joomla.  Instead, SMF created a new account called "admin" -- this is sync'd over FROM joomla... but this new admin account of course did not have ADMIN rights on SMF! freaked out because I thought I lost admin rights on SMF because

a) "admin" is not really an administrator
b) "test" was giving me a wrong password, because it does not exist in Joomla

The solution was to load the UNWRAPPED forum only (using domain.com/forums) and log in as "test"... after that I was able to delete the fake "admin" acct and rename everything back to the way it was before...

I'll fix this on future releases, maybe [1.0.3]
Just don't allow username changes in SMF for now.
