Sorry for making panic, but it seems to work. I tested i with IE --> worked. A friend of mine tested it with IE and FF --> worked.

So my Firefox seems to have problems.

There is a new version out, installing now...

UPDATE - Some observations as I'm doing the upgrade:

1. on uninstalling component, get error message "Operation Failed: Could not rename backup file /home/mydomain/public_html/index.php~jsfbak~".  Something to do with permissions?  I manually backed up the index.php, and renamed the old version with ftp.

2. directory components/com_smf/ is not deleted (inside are two files: index.html and smf.php). I manually removed them.

3. looks like the ENTIRE directory administrator/components/com_smf/ is not removed. again, I manually remove it.

4. mod_smf_login uninstalled without incident.

5. mod_smf_recent_topics uninstalled without incident.

6. second step in the readme says Uninstall the SMF Mod from SMF Package Manager. but we never installed any SMF mod Huh

Guys, be sure to unpatch first the SMF files:

Note: Before upgrading SMF or installing SMF mod, un-patch first the SMF files! Please be sure that the upgrade will work on the current version of this component.

I only saw this AFTER I finished all of the steps above ...  Undecided

So I backed up SMF's index.php and Sources/Subs-Post.php and renamed the old ~jsbak~ files.

Installation Experience
« Reply #18 on: October 04, 2005, 10:19:26 PM »

So after uninstalling everything (I think), here I am installing 1.0.1a:

- installer installed component without incident.
- com > joomla-smf > config. took 15 seconds or more to load, only the first time should take this long
- changed permissions on index.php (707)
- set basic parameters and hit "save"
- to patch SMF index and subs-post.php, I had to change their parent directory to 777. changed it back to 755 as soon as patching was completed.
- install smf_login and recent_topics

username syncing
« Reply #19 on: October 04, 2005, 10:40:31 PM »

I guess this is username related, so I'll add it here instead of starting a new thread...

I'm getting the following error syncing a SMF username with hyphens "-"

Quote
Syncing username phi-slamma-jamma Failed! Please enter a valid Username:. No spaces, more than 2 characters and contain 0-9,a-z,A-Z

It's a valid name in SMF, so should be okay in Joomla also, correct?

Logging in via the login module (not tried it via actual smf login) and looking at the forum profile information (not editing anything) then saving the profile is enough for me to loose both the name and email of a registered user.  Username and passwords seem to be left intact.

With 1.0.1a, when editing the profile, it is also syncing a BLANK email address to Joomla.

Note this is what is happening:

SMF > Profile > Account Related Settings - hit "CHANGE PROFILE", email syncs correctly to J!

SMF > Profile > Forum Profile Information - hit "CHANGE PROFILE", BLANK email is sync'd to J!

I think one solution would be to set off the edit profile on the forum.
As I`m using this forum as ranked one.. and the Grunst (registered members) are allowed to see only one board called "Ambbasy" and they have to post something in my language before I can grant them access to the forum, well I have to edit theyr profile and change status to Members from Grunst every time. This makes some changed into some Joomla users, don`t know the path.. but sometimes is my username, sometime the ones I edit.

Hope you could fix this as soon as possible. Thanks.

P.S.: I`ll install version 1.0.1a right away.

Sync is only when the account is not on the other. I guess the blank is due to the edit profile issue. This should be fixed now in 1.0.1b. Let me know if it's not.

Kai,
1,2,3 is about permissions on the path and files.
6 is a mislabel, that was for upgrade from 1.3.1.3.

Another issue (present in 1.0.1a also) is this: logged in as admin, went to edit a random user's profile.  Didn't actually change anything, just hit SAVE (change profile button), and that user's name and email address gets synced to the admin's account!

apt, and others, please test this to confirm.
