Customising Joomla Article Pages Layout - Example attached.
« on: April 24, 2010, 11:32:20 AM »

Hello,

Wondering if someone can help me with this.

I have set up a Joomla site that lists "meetings" for a club I work with.

I am currently listing each of the meetings on the site using Articles (published under Sections > Categories > "Meetings"). Each meeting that takes place has it's own page (article).

I'd really like to be able to customise the article page layout. At the moment I am simply using a WYSIWYG component to add an image and some details, along with a link generated by google maps pointing to a map of the location of the meeting.

I was wondering whether there was a way for me to customise the layout of the articles using some component rather than have to hack up the template files to do this?

Ideally I'd like to have some input fields on the article editor page to input information about the meeting (time, location, field for meeting image tc.) rather than simply type it into the WYSIWYG editor.

I have attached a basic image I put together demonstrating the sort of layout I'd really like to create for the article page. You can see the IMAGE, GOOGLE MAPS, DATE/TIME/LOCATION - If I could have these customisable by entering the date into some fields on the editor page, that when I publish the article the data inputted into the fields gets posted to the corresponding locations on the page, that would be great.

I have read a little on the various CCK components available but I am not sure if this is what I need?

If someone could help I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
