help with DB cache

We're having problems with our site not loading some images on ocassions. If we manually go into the cache and empty it, it seems to solve the problem for a while. We think that, as the
site is not fully optimised, resources are quickly being utilised and the DB cache becomes corrupt. Any idea how we can fix this?
