Forum Instalation "New to joomla"
« on: December 09, 2008, 01:09:56 AM »

Hello

I am new to joomla, I have swiched from php nuke to joomla because I heard the security is much much better, and I installed the latest version 1.5 now I am trying to install the forum and I was looking at smf or phpbb, phpbb2 I understand that I can install the forum but I can not use it on the joomla, the users have to register twice once on the website and once at the forum,

how can I make it so the users only have to register once on the website and that is it? is that posible?

Thank you

Hi Kemal,

For the time being there is no stable SMF Joomla 1.5.x bridge. There is one for phpbb. Please note bridging is quite complicated; for a newbie I recommend fireboard forum. That's just a Joomla component and easy to install.

Yes, the JSMF one; the download is on this site. I just don't recommend it, to go that way. You are building a new website on an old framework! The end of life of joomla 1.0.x is summer next year and the last maintance of the JSMF bridge is more than 1.5 year ago.

Just a thought: a lot of webmasters just use the bridges to integrate a forum nicely in joomla. A good bridge is a very sophisticated piece of software and is quit complex to maintain (eg. upgrading and so on) IMHO you can better adapt your joomla template to match your forums theme. Also forums are musch better in handeling user levels.

I don't like phpbb, so I can't help you with that.
