Seperate db scenario
« on: July 09, 2008, 09:34:40 AM »

hallo

I wonder if someone can help.  We have a stand alone SMF which we would like to integrate with Joomla.
Is this possible, and if so, what is the process to follow.  i have seen information in the forum for a scenario where Joomla and SMF reside in the same database, but the SMF was in place before we had the Joomla website.

Tech info:
SMF Joomla 2.0.2.1
Joomla 1.0.15 Stable
Simple Machines Forum 1.1.1
Community Builder 1.1

Any help is much appreciated.

regards.

Joomla and SMF must be in the same db for JSMF to work correctly. I assume you have two separate db's? In that case back up both and restore one of them in the other db. Make sure you don't have set the delete tables option anywhere. Next modify configuration.php (Joomla) or settings.php (SMF) according the new situation.

Good luck

Thank you for your prompt reply.  Yes, they are in seperate db's. Do i then after the steps you mentioned, run synch? And, are new tables created in the Joomla db and if so, what are their prefix? many thanks

hallo locutus

This is the scenario:
i installed SMF 114 in a sub-folder of my Joomla installation.  Then i installed com_smf 2021 via the Joomla installer. all seems fine.  The challenge now: i had SMF installed previoulsy as a stand alone as i did not have Joomla at the time.  This stand alone SMF has been used successfully.  i now want to import all SMF information (of the standalone) into Joomla and then make use of the com_smf bridge. Can i do this and if, so, how do i go about this? i am also using CB 1.1

Many thanks for your help.
