will not patch

OK I tired to install the joomla - smf bridge.  Things did not work so I decided to start all over again.  I uninstalled the component and tried to reinstall.

However I have run into a new problem.  Once the component is installed and I go to the install page where it says


Code:
installed SMF Forum installed on the same database as Joomla.

Patch Joomla Source Files.

Patch SMF Source Files (Note: Unpatch before upgrading SMF or installing mod.)

done [verify] Optional: Synchronize Joomla and SMF users(username or real name).

However when I try to click on the "patch smf" or "Patch joomla source files" it does nothing this time.

So by uninstalling and hopping to to figure out why it would not work before it is now giving an even bigger headache.  Can anyone help?

for me, I had to type in the SMF directory path and save before it would allow me to patch; but I have issues now of my own trying to uninstall it...
