I use Joomla 1.0.13, SMF 1.1.4, Joomla-SMF 2.0.2.1.
Both Joomla and SMF uses Windows-1251 (aka CP1251) character set. After I patching Joomla source files , the character set of menus and text in articles changes to UTF-8. Text like "search", "registration", "login", "next", "back", etc not affected. If I un-patch Joomla, everything reverts to normal state, but I need the bridge to work! What should I do to make it work? What files I need to edit and how?

After long search I've found the cause of this problem - in SMF's settings.php the last line explicitly sets character set used for DB. I've changed it from UTF-8 to Windows-1251 - and that's all
