Reinstall onto new hosting site

Hi everyone.

This is the first time I've attempted a relocation of an existing site to a new hosting server. It seemed to go OK at first but then it didn't and I've been pulling out handfulls of hair most of the day!

The situation is this. I FTP'd all the site files from the existing server and uploaded them to the new one. I exported all of the MySQL database tables and imported them to a new fresh database on the new server.

I made the appropriate changes to the configuration.php file path, active site, DB username and password etc).

So far so good. The site launched into the home page OK and everything looked fine and dandy.

The problem..... Some of the pages do not display at all but most look OK. However when I log into the front end and go to the content section I cannot make any changes and then I'm stuck there because the "close" and "save" buttons do not work. I can go FROM the content menu to the content page but not back, I have to use the browsers back button and I then find that the content item I've just visited is locked.

I've checked the content sections of the databases on the old and new servers and they look identical and yet there is obviously a problem. I've done the reinstall several times now with the same result each time.

Can anyone offer any indications please?
