Which bridge do I use?
« on: September 01, 2007, 03:39:18 PM »

This may be a simple question, but pardon my lack of knowledge.
I am trying to create a bridge between smf 1.1.3 and joomla 1.013. I wish to create a common database of users (when someone logs into joomla, they automatically login to smf as well and vice versa).

My questions are:
1. Which bridge do I use? I see there are several files on the site of format Joomla-SMF_x.x.zip. I am not sure if the version numbers are for smf of newer versions of the bridge. I had trouble installing all the 1.x versions- when I click on install the page goes blank. I was able to get 2.0 version bridge to work though. Will this work with SMF1.1.3?

2. Do I need to do anything other than this to enable joomla users to post to smf (in terms of configuration? Do I need to install mod_smf_login? If so, how do I use it?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Superdaantje you figure that andy doesn't bother to read or search.

I could say where is the user guide and what user guide and how do I know what to search for on the forum if I don't know what to search for.

I've spent yonks here and other than this page (which is out of date) can find nothing that references Joomla 1.0.13 and SMF 1.1.3.

Chances are that his dumb question is actually highlighting the need to provide a page that is linked from the front page showing what bridge version to use with what Joomla! and SMF combination.

So I'll ask the question

What bridge do I use with Joomla! 1.0.13 and SMF 1.1.3?

He never said that.....you did....

I could say where is the user guide and what user guide and how do I know what to search for on the forum if I don't know what to search for.

How about looking in the Joomla-SMF 2.0.x forum.....

I've spent yonks here and other than this page (which is out of date) can find nothing that references Joomla 1.0.13 and SMF 1.1.3.

I don't know where you do your searching but when I search for "1.0.13" on the forum I get 2 pages with hits....and suprise...they are all about the Joomla-SMF bridge.

Chances are that his dumb question is actually highlighting the need to provide a page that is linked from the front page showing what bridge version to use with what Joomla! and SMF combination.

So I'll ask the question

What bridge do I use with Joomla! 1.0.13 and SMF 1.1.3?

I should say...always the latest one....which in this case is 2.0.2

All bridge descriptions do not state which SMF version it is built for. Before getting bitchy to new users, you could check your own information. I've used a lot of open source scripts, but JoomlaHacks has the bitchiest "support" forum I've ever come across with. (Other support forums are not filled with as many confused first time users, OR unanswered questions, so it's not that they are idiots either, like you seem to think.)

I do appreciate all the hard work all of you have done, but I really do not appreciate the attitude you give to people who are politely asking for help. I am searching for the answer for this same question for the 3rd day in a row, but I'm not going to ask for help, as I know you do not like giving it.

However I will be writing a review of the bridge and I'll put it something like this: "Joomla-SMF is a bitch to install and the JoomlaHacks website is a bitch to find instructions from." Depending if I ever find the answer for my questions, I might say something nice as well. Remains to be seen.

I ‘m not a crew member of Joomlahacks, I’m just a member like you that is spending his free time helping people. But answering the same question over and over is not necessary.

In most topics I put an link to the topic you have to go. I find it not necessary to do this with every question. Why when you use the search option you will really find the answers.

This had nothing to do with bitchy but more what we can expect from every new user to search and read the forums first before posting. So as you could read the forums are filt with a lot of questions that are from the same art. Unfortunately there is no Moderation any more on the forums to merge or remove those post.

But I wish you al the best with your review and getting the Bridge to work.

Kind regards,
Daan

PS: I just decided to stop with the Support on the JH forums.
Reasons:
- There is no Moderation on the forums any more. (to bad)
- The development has been stopped for the Bridge >?<
(I hope that some one will pick up the development in the future.)
- Reply’s like this (are not motivating to help people out here)

Sebastyne many thanks. Your Post made this decision very easy Wink
