SMF becomes Joomla! homepage/frontpage after installation
« on: August 20, 2007, 03:30:28 AM »

Hi would really appreciate help on this issue.

When I go to my homepage SMF replaces the content in my frontpage (i still get the top and side panels). Moreover I cannot log in using non-smf user names.

When I un-install the component I can see my frontpage content again, and the logins work.

I followed all the instructions in the user guide to install SMF on my website and the SMF component in joomla.

I'm using Joomla 1.0.13, SMF 1.1.3, and comSMF 2.0.2.

My joomla database prefix is "jos", and i've tried using "jos" and "jos_smf_" for SMF, and I get the same problem.

Would really appreciate help with this, can't find any forums on google or here that address the issue...  Roll Eyes

Thanks heaps

 Tom

Should be using version 2.0.2.1 if you are using Joomla! 1.0.13.  Try that (see link below) and  see if that fixes the issue.

http://www.joomlahacks.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,94/topic,4174.0

As for the prefix for the database, my SMF/Joomla combo works fine with just "SMF_####"  e.g., SMF_members (etc..etc.) for the SMF entries (SMF and Joomla entries must be in same database).

Ahh my session timed out while posting! so i'll keep this one short...

Tried your suggestions - and it fixed the logging in problems, it works well now.

However still got SMF as my frontpage! I put a link to my pre-existing frontpage, and i can still access this content. So i worked out that someone SMF became my default site index --> index.php option=com_smf&Itemid=30.

Experimented by installing on a server on my computer using apache and joomla with no components - and it worked properly.

Hence i guess the problem is either with my server, interference with some components, or pre-existing conditions from previous failty installs.

Thanks heaps anyway - if anyone knows whats going on, I would still appreciate their help.

 Kind Regards

 Tom

O.K I just worked it out!

It turns out that I had the link to SMF as the top order in my menu bar... so joomla made it the homepage.

 Rookie error!  Roll Eyes

I obviously new to this, so thanks for your help. I also hope that I'm able to help someone who has been as inexperienced and careless as myself!
