Converting FROM JSMF to Orstio's Bridge
« on: July 28, 2007, 03:26:17 AM »

Hello,

I've been a long time user of JSMF, absolutely no complaints.

However, I need to convert to Orstio's bridge (official SMF Joomla Bridge).

Would anyone be so kind as to point me in the right direction on how to accomplish this?

I doubt its overly complex, but not having done it before I'd appreciate someone with experience to inform me how its done.

I don't need exact instructions, as I'll follow Orstio's, but I'd like to know what I need to do to fully remove JSMF (aside from the obvious removing the component itself - if there is anymore to it than that??)

Thanks in Advance!

I checked on SMF's forum first actually.

I cannot locate any instructions there, and I know they'll send me right back here if I open a thread there about JSMF.

Since this is a JSMF question, I think the question should be asked here.

Pretty much, you'll need to unpatch ALL the files (seeing as they no longer apply) and then uninstall the JSMF component and all our modules/mambots. You should be able to use the normal install instructions for the official version after that.

Note: The official bridge is no longer supported and distributed... in case you didn't know. If you're waiting on a 1.0.13 version of this bridge - it'll be soon.

Well, there is nothing really to convert, per se.  I have used both bridges at one point or the other.  Just need to make sure you go back to the JSMF component in Joomla backend admin and select the "Install" menu.  Then look at each of the options on that screen and make sure to "unpatch" each selection in the install screen.  Then things should be as they were prior to the bridge/patch.  You can then use the official bridge instructions at the SMF website to install from that point forward.  I would uninstall the JSMF component once you got things working the way you want.

I will say that I had a heck of time with the Orstio bridge (earlier versions) and it whacked out my SMF forum inside the Joomla template.  So make sure you have backed up your SMF and Joomla folders on your website before you start messing around with their bridge.

Of course, with the politics of Joomla/SMF at the moment, you will get no Orstio support since they are fighting over license  issues and the bridge has been taken down (hopefully only temporarily).

Cheers,
Chris

Thank you both for the reply, its appreciated.

Yeah, its abit of a mess at the moment with this whole licensing thing.

I'm actually going to switch to CB Connector (and use phpbb3) when its ready I think - I'm alpha testing it at the moment and its looking good.

As I said, I've had nothing but a positive experience with JSMF, but I can't really risk being stuck in the middle of a licensing war and have the forum open to security problems due to development woes or legal restrictions.

I'll be keeping JSMF on 2 of my sites though, just the bigger one I need to go with a more stable solution.

Thanks again,
