How do I change SMF server settings in config to point to new databse tables
« on: June 23, 2005, 08:33:46 PM »

I recently upgraded the the newest version of both SMF & Mambo plus the components and modules, and moved the entire thing to a new host.  At the new host I changed installed SMF via their cpanel, and it installed it in its own database tables.  I release now that this was the wrong way.  I backuped up everything (Mambo & SMF tables).  Then I inserted the smf tables into the mambo database using mos_ as the prefix before the smf_ prefix.  I did this so the config page under mambo smf component in the mambo admin would be happy.  I then tried to change the server/user name settings in the smf config to match the new location of the smf tables (within the mambo db).  SMF did not like this, and gave me an error about the server being busy.  If I keep the original settings in the SMF config everything displays fine, but when new users that have registered since the move log into mambo, and then try to view the forum, the get an error message and the login screen stating that the user does not exist.  It appears that the component is happy because it sees the SMF tables inside the MOS database, and adds new users the the members table correctly, but SMF does not like it because it is still looking at the old SMF database. Like I said, I tried to manaully change the SMF settings file, but I get errors after I do.  (Yes, the values I used for the new db and username match the ones for mos.)

My Question is what and where do I need to change the SMF config to look to the new table location?

Please help. I am getting tons of emails on this, and I know its probably something simple.  My head just hurts from trying to figure it out.

THANKS!

After a good nights rest, I figured it out.  The db password setting in Settings.php did not match the mambo db password.  However, I then had to go into the db and change all the paths to the themes, to match the new host/domain location.  Once I did that all was good.  I love when I can figure this stuff out myself...

Question:  Why have these paths and URLs in the db & in a config file?  This is mostly an SMF developer question though.
