Member synchronization problem

I've installed Joomla - smf bridge version 2.0.2 with and smf installation of 1.1.2.

I've completed all of the steps up to synchronizing the users. When I try to synchronize, it tells me that the email address already exists. (some of my forum users registered on the website before I tried to synch joomla and smf.

Do I need to delete those accounts from my joomla database in order to complete the synchronization or is there a better way?
