Novice: Please Help. Template Problem
« on: July 06, 2007, 09:28:21 AM »

Hey, now if this question has already been answered, sorry for reposting but I haven't been able to find my answer. Now I installed SMF 1.1.2 (because I have a specific template I would like to use) and then I installed the Joomla Bridge, but as you can see (http://www.verivex.com/home/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=27) my forum does not look good. I haven't changed any templates or anything yet, and this is what keeps coming up. I have cleared all the databases etc. but I have not been able to get the forum looking right. I want to install a different template, but I first what to find out what is wrong with the default one before I install a new one. Thank you for all you help! =)

Do you have the following option enabled in the JSMF Component.

Include CSS from SMF Theme

If not then the CSS stylesheets will not be included in the HTML head.

Sean...The reason I asked is the SMF stylesheets are not being inserted into your pages <head> section. Are you sure you did all of the patches after the install.

This is what I specifically did:
1) Installed SMF into my website at the folder /community
2) Put the Databases for SMF in with my Joomla site, so they are in the same database. Then I finished configuring the entire SMF so that it was ready to use.
3) Installed the Joomla-SMF bridge as a component.
a) I put in the SMF Absolute Path then saved it.
b) Then I Patched Joomla Source Files. Saved.
c) Then I Patched SMF Source Files. Saved.

And then after all that, my forum has turned out bad.

What am I specifically missing. Also, a whole another problem I am noticing is that even after I Synchronized the Joomla and SMF users that they are not showing up either in the forum or joomla. Even if someone registers, it won't work for the other. But I need help with the first problem. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Your site is still not including the SMF CSS in the <head> of your html. Double check the setting in the Joomla Administrator under the Joomla->Components->Joomla-SMF Formum-Configuration page for "Include CSS from SMF Theme" this must be enabled. Afterword select in the Joomla Administrator under System->Clean all Caches.

The reload the page. After that I couldn't tell you why it is not being included properly. Does this work correctly with the default Joomla template? If so then it would be something in your template. If not then I would be at a loss.

I am using the default template and yes, my CSS thing is enabled. Also, I don't have a thing call Clear Cache under the System panel of the admin page....?

That just means you don't have caching enabled in Joomla. That is ok. I just wanted to ensure that if you did then you could be getting a cached version of the JSMF configuration. I don't know what to tell you except to see if this works with the default Joomla template. If it does then something is wrong with your template. If not I am at a loss to help you.

I'm using this thread as I also have problems with templates.
Look at my picture. You see the blue stripe that starts from the left ? Why doesn't that continue all the way to the right as it should ?
Also my navigationbuttons (not visible here) shrinks when using this template.
At the bottom the template overwrites the joomlatemplate. You can see the blue bottom to the left. That's joomlas. The white just continues down below and over that footer. Why ?!?

Hope for help.

I just looked and i do not see anything wrong with your forums.... what is it doing for you? is it maybe just your cache? try clearing your temp and cache files (if your using IE goto tools/internet options and clear them there...) I hope this is all the problem is... I am also having template problems on my site but yours seems ok from here.

I think I'm having the same problem
my forum seems to br lacking any kind of design (CSS) - as if it can't find the CSS files. the absolute path in the bridge is correct and i have tried it with many templates - not working...
I'm using SMF 1.1.3
JSMF 2.0.2
Joomla! 1.0.12
check it out
http://www.speadball.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=132
thanks for the help

Check your Templates files for duplicate Classes and ID’s think this will be the solution for your problems. When you use the Bridge in wrapped mode both templates are loaded so also the style sheets. Hen having duplicate Classes and ID’s this can mess up your layout.

Example of an duplicate Class is the footer of the header. This is mentioned in most themes off SMF and Joomla. Just rename and rewrite the style sheet
