I agree with Kevin... this whole license issue is absolutely st$p$d. I think it is a bit of a stretch to call SMF a Joomla derivative just because of some shared function calls in a bridge. Let the bridge be licensed GPL, as it already is, and just let it be. If Joomla makes it an issue and forces a stop to distribution of JSMF, I'll look for another CMS to bridge with SMF, or look at using just SMF on my site.
I do appreciate the development of JSMF, and hope that development and distribution will continue uninterrupted.
Joomla! is very clear in this one the Bridge between Joomla! and SMF is violating the licence code
What I meant was : this is only Joomla official opinion. It does not have any legal value, it is just their interpreation (and their legal counsel interpretation) of the licence...

Can you please explain what you are trying to achieve? You are posting here as well in the Joomla forum the same messages....You do not contribute you create unrest and confusion. Throwing out of context messages around forum boards will not help at all... Please stop this messing around?
Think the best way to find out is to contact the core Team.
Why? See one of my recent post in this topic

There are definitely shared function calls and data structures between Joomla! and SMF via the bridge, and therefore the bridge still violates the GPL by including a non-GPL element in the workflow.

Sorry, this is my first post here, but I have a (possibly) tough question regarding your bridge. Due to recent statements from Joomla (strict GPL enforcement) and SMF (strict SMF licence enforcement:http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=184557), it seems to me that the detailed answer provided in this post by the FSF makes any bridge between Joomla and SMF illegal. What's your thoughts ?
What I am trying to do is made some people here aware of some issues they will be facing. From the answers above, it seems the people that had planned to spend some time working on, supporting users of, .. the SMF bridge were unaware of the implications of Joomla team decision and subsequent SMF decision (asking to enforce their own licence) for their work, so I don't think it was totally useless to bring this information to their attention. You may think otherwise, that's fine by me.
Regards to all, and sorry about this response to Leo, there won't be more pollution of your forum by me.
