User syncing error: 414 URI Too Large

I have a website with around 2,500 members. Any time I try to sync realnames or usernames via the JSMF component, I get a 414 Error page...

     Request-URI Too Large
     The requested URL's length exceeds the capacity limit for this server.

     request failed: URI too long

     Apache/1.3.37 Server at simplyadvanced.biz Port 80

I looked around for some info on this here, but didn't find any. Has anyone else experienced this issue and/or there some resolutions for it?
