Detect Mamble fish language and set SMF language for guests
« on: June 01, 2005, 06:34:22 PM »

The default language of my SMF is English. I would like to have it change to French for a guest that has selected Mambo in French.

Any suggestions? I saw a post on SMF site, but I don't know how to implement it. http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=17595.0

I believe there is a language pack for SMF. You have to get it from SMF website then configure your forum from SMF admin to set the langauge.

To configure:
Go to "Edit Server Settings"
Then "Default Forum Language" option.

Thanks for the reply.

I have the language pack installed. For members, I can select the default language or they select thier own. When a member logs into the site SMF and Mambo are in the same language.

The problem arrises when a Guest enters the Mambo site and chooses French as the language and wants to browse the Forum. Mambo is in French but SMF is in the default language, which in this case is English. I could for example create two Forum buttons, one with
http://www.simplemachines.org/smf/index.php?language=english and the second with http://www.simplemachines.org/smf/index.php?language=french

I prefer not to do this. What would be efficient would be to know what language the user is viewing in Mambo and then when the user clicks on the Forum menu selection, the forum opens in the same language.

Even a language button in the SMF menu would be acceptable.

It is somewhat important to be in the correct language, because I use a language tag in SMF that changes some forum text based on the user's current language.

What ya think?

Thanks,
Bob
