Can't patch SMF source files
« on: February 23, 2007, 02:10:11 AM »

Hi Wolverine,

I successfully installed SMF 1.1.2 and JSMF 2.02. But when I installed a third-party template my site became unusable, so I uninstalled everything, cleared the cache and started over. But when installing JSMF again I couldn't patch the Joomla source index.php or the SMF source files. My path matches the SMF admin path.

The install guide and the forum indicate how to deal with index.php, but I can't locate how to solve my SMF source files problem. None of the solutions seem to match my situation.

I have changed all the permissions, as I did on the original install, but that didn't solve it.

I'm not getting any error messages.

My details are:

Joomla 1.012
SMF 1.1.2
JSMF 2.02
PHP 4.4.4
Msql 4.1.21

Thanks

Did you use an FTP client or did you do it in your controllpanel on your server?
I had same problem and needed to use my controllpanel for doing the job.

I'm not getting any error messages when trying to patch Joomla or SMF source files. Nothing happens on the admin screen.

By directly installing the index.php bridge file into Joomla, the forum is bridged. And when I return to the admin config screen, I get the "done (un-patch)" message where it's supposed to be. But the situation with the SMF source patch is the same. And I have two obvious issues that seem related to the patch problem:

1. When I login, I'm redirected to the standard Joomla message that the page is missing. I am logged in though, and can access the forum.
2. The forum template is somewhat broken.

unless you can get me an error message I can't really help you on this.  Nothing in the error_log?

I solved the patching problem by downloading a fresh bridge component. I don't how how or if the first file could become corrupted, but this did the trick -- but only within admin.

While the installation screen looks fine, outside of admin I still have two problems:

I'm using the Joomla Hacks CB plugin, but neither it nor the bridge are giving me a login connection from the site to the forum now. The forum is wrapped in Joomla, but that's all. I'm still getting a redirect to the Joomla missing page message when logging in from the Home page, but not from other login pages, so this problem perhaps isn't bridge related.

My forum template works fine now with one exception: the menu is broken up by what appear to be stars when bridged. Incompatible template?

Any obvious solutions?

The difference between the Templates in wrapped en un-wrapped mode is covert referral times covered @ this forum Wink It has to do with duplicate classes  (Css) off your Template

What about the login. Version off the Plug-in. Check if this one is the latest version. And witch login system you use. This part is covered in the User Guide

Thanks for the tips. On investigation, I realized I had the wrong plugin. And I fixed the css so the site template doesn't affect the forum menu.
