Installation of Joomla SMF 2.0.2
« on: February 10, 2007, 10:30:10 AM »

Hi All--

Is the documentation in the JSMF User Guide for installation still correct?
I am referring to the following link:

http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=5

At first, according to the user guide, I installed the SMF incorrectly.  I went into the administration area of Joomla and went to "Installers - Components".  I then hit browse and selected the "com_smf_2_0_2.zip" file and pressed "install".
Then it said that it uploaded successfully and to continute with installation click here.  I then got the following errors:

I then referred to the User Manual for installation setup and realized I did not do it properly according to the manual.  I then tried to delete the files I had installed, but could not.

I eventually did create a directory called "forum" using my FTP account and uploaded all of the files as it instructed in the user manual (above link).  I then tried to install it, but nothing is working.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what I am doing wrong?

Best regards,

TC

Thats not the JSMF user guide.  Check my sig block for a link to the JSMF user guide.

It looks like you installed in separate databases.

Hi Wolverine--

I did download the JSMF user guide that is in your sig block.  That is the one I an referring to in this post.  It says the following:

2.1.3. Installing SMF
This version of the bridge requires SMF 1.1.x. However, it is recommended that you run the latest version of the 1.1 series. Download and install the latest 1.1.x version of SMF. This version of the bridge DOES NOT WORK WITH SMF 1.0.X.
Get SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org)
2.1.3.1. SMF Installation Instructions
SMF Installation Instructions@http://docs.simplemachines.org
http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=2.0;sort=subject
You should not enable Gzip Output during the SMF installation. If you would like to compress output enable it in Joomla.

Should I try to delete both databases it looks like I installed and then manually upload the forum into the "forum" directory on my FTP account?

Install Joomla! in the root off your server and SMF in an Sub folder

Root/ --Joomla! files
Root/Folder/ ---SMF files  (you can give the folder the name you want)

Http://yoursite.com ---Joomla home
Http://yoursite.com/folder ---SMF home

The database off Joomla! and SMF have to be in the same datbase!

IS it this what you mean?

Hi LiveBox--

Thanks for the reply.  I have done the following:

Install Joomla! in the root off your server and SMF in an Sub folder

Root/ --Joomla! files
Root/Folder/ ---SMF files  (you can give the folder the name you want)

Http://yoursite.com ---Joomla home
Http://yoursite.com/folder ---SMF home

I installed the forum using the Admin component installer of Joomla.  Is this correct?  Where do I get the tables for the database?

Hi Wolverine--

You were right.  I was using the wrong section of the installation user manual.  I have done everything right, but now I am still at the same point as the image states above.  How do I have the "SMF Forum installed on the same database as Joomla."    Where do I find the tables?

I just did an install:
www.procamerapages.com (joomla)
www.procamerapages.com/Forums (smf)

I also successfully installed the bridge and the absolute path was correctly configured.

But in the front end CB is still saying that SMF is not installed: Giving me this msg:
Simpleboard forum component is not installed. Please contact your site administrator.

Any help?

Best start is Install Joomla! and SMF when both are working in standalone then install the Bridge. when the Bridge is working then you can go on with the CB integration.

Please follow the instructions off the user guide. When you still have problems please supply us the versions off:
Joomla!
SMF
Bridge
And used plugins for CB (version numbers)

Sorry about the bump there...not my intention to ...just needed some help.

Version Information:

Your Joomla version is: 1.0.12
Your SMF version is: 1.1.2
Your Joomla-SMF version: 2.0.2

New Findings:
When you click the SMF bridge forum menu you get "a page not found msg" but when I insert in the browser the folder "forums" it works quite ok:

www.procamerapages.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=30  <don't work>
www.procamerapages.com/forums/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=30 <works>

How do you modify the the URL (joomla admin) of the forum menu from:
index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=30
to
forums/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=30
since it is hard coded.

Thanks

I am using Bridge Version 1.1.6 and have a few questions please:

1.) Are there any advantages to install newer version?
2.) Can I upgrade current version to newest, or do I have to reinstall fresh copy?
3.) If I need to install fresh copy, do I just deleted old one and reinstall new one? Will I loose information?

Thanx

Sorry but the 1.1.6 is not an Bridge from Joomlahacks but an Simplemachines. You can install the Joomlahacks Bridge version 2.0.2 or you have to go to Simplemachines for Support.

I did a print out of the guide and spent sometime reading it...and it helps a lot. I got most of the configurations working now. There is a single login now for the joomla, CB and SMF, except that the admin for the SMF forum has to login through the forums.

Now the only problem is with the profile taps in the CB for the SMF forums. I have copied the images to give you guys a better picture of what the problem is.

As you can see from the above pic. it's still reading simpleboard forum not installed.

This is the plugin manager in CB and you can see the simple board there.

This is the details of the simpleboard plugin.

Is SMF the same as simpleboard and if not how can I replace that with SMF and get it to work?

Thanks in advance for your help and patience.

This is not simpleboard.  This is simple machines forum.  Simpleboard is something different altogether.
