Hi Wolverine, Thanks for that - it turned out the permissions were not writeable for those two files, therefore nothing happened when I patched them (d'oh davie). So, I CHMODed them to writeable, then went back patched the two from ADMIN> COMPONENTS>> JOOMLA SMF FORUM>>> INSTALL ... & then did "Verify" and all seems to be working fine now.
I changed the two files back to their original unwriteable CHMOD - is that correct?
Phew... many thanks for your help, I'm glad someone knows what he's doing! D
the only thing that can cause this is if the joomla index isn't patched
Thanks ... I actually tried your patch and at least got the forum and everything to display... (BIG STEP)... now my problem is that when I log in to the site and then click to display the forum I am immediately logged out...
I'll look for other FAQ's or help in the forums for this.
Well I'm back to zero again. I uninstalled and restarted because I needed to get some other work done however I hate to quit on this so here goes again:
Version Information: Your Joomla version is: 1.0.12 Your SMF version is: 1.1.2 Your Joomla-SMF version: 2.0.2 Latest Joomla-SMF version: 2.0
I have installed all patches: Forum URL: SMF Absolute Path: SMF Table Prefix: installed SMF Forum installed on the same database as Joomla. done [un-patch] Patch Joomla Source Files. done [un-patch] Patch SMF Source Files (Note: Unpatch before upgrading SMF or installing mod.) done [verify] Optional: Synchronize Joomla and SMF users(username or real name).
(I can send a screen shot if you need it but hopefully this cut-n-paste will work as proof)
I also tried the smf patch at the bottom of the help thread and that gave the same results.
This is the error message I get:
Fatal error: Unknown(): The script tried to execute a method or access a property of an incomplete object. Please ensure that the class definition jsmffrontend of the object you are trying to operate on was loaded _before_ the session was started in /EDITED/barkleyandpaws/index.php on line 68
This is what is in the error.log:
[18-Feb-2007 09:09:20] PHP Fatal error: Unknown(): The script tried to execute a method or access a property of an incomplete object. Please ensure that the class definition jsmffrontend of the object you are trying to operate on was loaded _before_ the session was started in /home2/checkdru/public_html/barkleyandpaws/index.php on line 68
Any ideas on what I can do next? It works fine as a separate application (standalone). My Joomla site works great without the patch to index.php
I am also running SEF Advanced and have tried this with the SMF component ignored and enabled with no change.
There was a patch I found somewhere on this forum that made at least the wrapper work (cannot find it now) but once you clicked to go to the forum you were immediately logged out of the site.
Are there any additional error settings I can try?
Thanks for all your help and advice. I would really like to use this...

basically, before I use the jsmfFrontend object I include the class file, components/com_smf/smf.class.php. The error message you pasted indicates that smf.class.php was not included before the attempt to use the jsmfFrontend object. That means only one thing, that the joomla index is not patched or that something is causing the patched section of the joomla index to fail. And that would be a first that I can recall. Do you see any errors before that message about failing to include a file?

I don't see any other error messages... I have attached the patched screenshot...
I just unpatched it because I don't want my site down...
Any other ideas???

no, thats it. Basically, it must be something about your configuration or your site is not correct for the bridge to run properly.
In digging a little deeper it appears this problem has been identified in another post has a conflict between iJoomla Magazine and the bridge. Have you heard that? I have also posted a message over at the iJoomla site to see if they are working on a fix. It had been brought to their attention earlier...

Hi Wolverine, sorry for being bothering, but ... I've just updated smf, CB and the bridge. Now I'm getting the same error. I've checked the joomla index and, actually, it calls for smf.class.php. Than should mean that the index is pathed, though I've checked the file and it is exactly were it is expected to be, and yet I get the error. I don't think it could be a server issue because everithing was working fine before the upgrade.
N.B.: Sorry for my pityful English ... I'm Italian In any case .... congratulation for the great work you're doing
UPDATE: The problem is on the second user I add after rebooted the browser
