Upgrading JSMF
« on: January 03, 2007, 06:39:22 AM »

I have JSMF 2.0 RC2 and I want to upgrade to the latest stable version.

I can always uninstall the existing bridge and install the latest but my problem is the itemid of my wrapped forum.  If i will do so, the itemid will be changed and all links will be invalid, right?

I've searched for upgrade instruction or patch file (just like the one in RC3) but there is none.

Can someone help me?

Thanks for any reply!

Just (first) unpatch the bridge remove it from the components.
then reinstall the new Bridge Wink

No, the itemid is retained between installs.  You will not have to change any links.  I did not include a patch because I wanted a fresh install of JSMF 2.0 Final.  Going forward I will provide patches.

Thank you very much for the very quick reply guys!

And most of all, thanks Wolverine!  Maintaining my own site gives me a lot of trouble.  I just can't imagine the headaches you had in coming up with this quality piece.  Your hardships are very much appreciated.

More power to you Wolve and to all who made this release possible! Wink

I am running Joomla! 1.0.11 Stable.  I have installed SMF 1.1 successfully.

2 Questions
1. Should I upgrade to SMF 2.0?
2. What steps do I take to have the forum wrapped within my site?

1) Just read the forums for more info Wink (yes Upgrade)
2) just read the user manual for that

Tip also upgrade your Joomla to 1.0.12 and SMF to 1.1.1

  • Upgraded to Joomla 1.0.12
  • Upgraded SMF to 1.1.1

Thanks for the tip Livebox, luckily everything went smoothly.

Do I need to install the CB plugin to make it work together?  That was listed in the User Guide.

I upgraded and installed everything.  Still having trouble making the forum showup within my template.  So far I have been installing the basics, the forum is a big part of the site so I want to get that setup and working first.  I just want this thing showing up in my template and not the stock joomla template so I can begin styling my forum to match the rest of the site.  Thanks again LiveBox.

Agreed! I am amazed at the dedication and hard work involved in accomplishing such a bridge component with such latitude.
