UTF-8 Encoding
« on: December 30, 2006, 09:57:20 AM »

Hey all

I installed the bridge for SMF and in the installation from the SMF i marked the checkbox UTF-8. Now, my whole Joomla can't show up the special signs in german (ä,ü,ö) anymore  Shocked

Any suggestions?

Best regards from Switzerland  Grin

Hey Livebox

Thank you for your swift reply. Hum? After i "unpatched" the Joomla-Core Files in the Backend, it works fine. If I patch the whole stuff again, it doesn't work anymore.

Any idea?

Hey Livebox

Thank you for your reply. I found the bug now. Each time I patch the Joomla-Core Files in the Backend, all special letters in german (ä,ö,ü) messed up. When I unpatch it again, everything works fine.

Is there any way to patch the core-files manually? What changes are made in the index.php from Joomla when I patch it?

Would be great if you could help me  Grin

In my case, I had everything in utf and had this strange characters.
After digging, I found it ! It was my templates fault :

the meta http-equiv Contenet-Type was sending an
echo _ISO
which, in my case, was writing
charset=iso-8859-1

I just hard coded
UTF-8
(taken from the header of SMF called as standalone.

And evrything is OK  Smiley

Thank you so much for your great work. Sure I'll donate.

I just hard coded
charset=UTF-8
(taken from the header of SMF called as standalone.
in the template header section.

Still had somme ? on buttons, like "Se d?connecter" instead of "Se déconnecter".

Replacing all é by é (and so on) in the french.php Joomla language file brought everything right.

and, to be complete, I had to change, at the beginning of frontend.php

Code:
$mosmsg = stripslashes( strval( mosGetParam( $_REQUEST, 'mosmsg', '' ) ) );
to

Code:
$mosmsg = stripslashes( strval( htmlentities( mosGetParam( $_REQUEST, 'mosmsg', '' ) ) ) ); /* htmlentities */

I have similar problems with this integration module.

I'm 100% sure that:
* database and all tables are in UTF-8
* joomla installation is working in UTF-8 mode
* smf installation is working in UTF-8 mode
(where double checked)

But when I put Joomla-SMF module it will break UTF-8.

PS. My template is not giving bag headers.

You can test at http://www.i18n.ro
