A couple of headscratchers (!)
« on: December 20, 2006, 05:06:24 PM »

A couple of problems I encountered while installing this today, which I managed to fix. Hopefully someone may find this useful!

1. The 'Recent Topics' module shows the latest posts from when you installed the main component - but it doesn't update.

Reason - the Settings.php file of your SMF installation hasn't been updated, so new forum posts are using the old database.

If previously you had Joomla! and SMF in different databases, and you copied across the SMF tables to the Joomla! database, you will also need to adjust the Settings.php file.

Download it your PC, use a text edior (eg Notepad) to open it, and change line 39 to the correct database name; you may also need to change lines 40, 41 and 42.

2. You install the discussbot and add {mos_smf_discuss} to an article. But when you click on the article, it tells you there's an error in the SQL syntax.

Not sure if this can be classed as a bug or not - but if the default board name has an ampersand (the & sign) in it, you have to write it out in full - &

My default board name is News & Announcements; in the default board name box I had to type News & Announcements. Strangely, this problem does not occur if you do this {mos_smf_discuss:News & Announcements}

I hope this will ease the frustrations of one or two.

2) can and will be fixed.

Thanks for the help, I will add #1 to the FAQ in the JSMF user guide.
