Ajax not working in SMF 1.1RC3 with the latest bridge. Please help.
« on: December 09, 2006, 12:06:39 PM »

Hi Wolverine,
I converted to your bridge last night without too many problems.
The only problem I have is that any Ajax features in SMF do not seem to work (either in the front end or the admin panel). For the benefit of people searching or reading this post in future, your Ajax features are the buttons or icons like smilies, formatting (bold, italics) etc. If you are having this problem then this is the thread you need to read.

I'm using Joomla 1.0.11, SMF 1.1RC3, the JSMF Bridge 2.0RC3, also the Joomap plugin and the community builder plug-in.

The bridge is set to use the Community Builder registration through the JSMF log-in module.

I'd appreciate some directions or help on how to get the Ajax modules working again before my members notice Wink

Thanks for your help guys.

Those arent ajax codes, they're BBC buttons. What do you mean they dont work?

Well, when I press a smilie when making a post, nothing happens (no code gets put into the post). Same with the formatting options.

Also, in the admin area, where you have those little ? boxes that produce a pop-up window explaining what the feature is for, they don't work either. You have to press the button and it takes you to a new page.

My site is at www.hairdressingworld.com

Perhaps it is a problem with my SMF template or something, but it worked before?

If you need a log in I can provide you with one via PM.

Thanks for your help.

Seems your links are resolved correctly. In the reply post screen, the "Insert Quote" beside each previous reply below points to "http://www.hairdressingworld.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,XX/board,XX.0/#top" when it should've pointed to something like "http://www.hairdressingworld.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,XX/action,post/topic,XX.0/num_replies,X/#top"
(X are all numbers)

I don't know what could cause this, but maybe you can try disabling Joomla's SEF for the moment. Also, just to check, make sure you've patched the SMF files in your JSMF's backend.

Hi Mike,
I tried each of the above after reading your post. I unpatched the SMF files and it made no difference (apart from sending me to an unbridged forum when I logged out). The problem with smilies not being entered into the posts remained.

I then switched off the Joomla SEF and again, the problem still remained that smilies did not get entered into the posts.

Do you have any other ideas why the BBC code buttons are suddenly not working? Thanks for your help. It's appreciated.

Regards,
Chris.

EDIT: I should also add that the BBC buttons do not work in the unbridged forum either, so something has definitely gone astray in the actual SMF code rather than the joomla code.

Did you install any SMF mods recently? and if you did, did you unpatch JSMF first before installing the mods?

I will suggest uninstalling any mods (if any) and try again.

An Update:
The BBC buttons and javascripts are now working! Yey.

Here is what I did (might help others reading this thread in future).

I went into my admin panel of my SMF forum, went to themes and settings and set the overall theme as SMF Core theme (the default one used on the SMF site).

I then checked my BBC codes and smilies etc. and they were working.  Huh

So I quickly changed the overall theme back again (I use Orange.lt as my overall theme) and found that the smilies etc. are now all working.

If this does the trick for anyone with the same problem, please reply to this thread so that we can put this into the FAQ.

Thanks to Mike for his help though.

This is the anchor bug that I reported in the JSMF 2.0RC3 thread.  It is fixed in the next version

Hi Wolverine,
My problem keeps returning with the smiley problem.

I have to change to the core theme then back again in order to get them working. Do you have any idea why this would happen? Is it because I'm using a different theme?

Which files get modified when SMF gets patched by the bridge? I'm thinking I may have to manually patch some of my theme templates.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I've just discovered something else. When I try to later anything in the admin center of my forum I get the following error:

An Error Has Occurred!
Unable to load the 'main' template.

Perhaps that has something to do with it?

I have tried to identify this problem many times with no success.  My suggestion is to make whatever change in standalone mode.

What about the smilies Wolverine? Can you tell me which SMF files are changed during the patching process as I think I may have to update my template files manually.

Thanks.

smilies?  I am speaking specifically about the unable to load main template error.  The smilies and AJAX work just fine.

Hi Wolverine, on my board the smilies no longer work. You can see them and click them but the code does not insert (or for bold, italics etc.)

That's what I was asking about. When I reset the SMF template to the Core template they work, but when I go back to the Orange-lt template they only work for a short while before they stop working again.
Do you know what would cause this problem?

Thanks.

Chris.

the template is causing this.  Or your manual modifications to the header.  I don't know if Orstio's bridge requires you to modify the template or not, but mine does not.  I strip the headers from the template dynamically as the forum is loaded and insert them into the Joomla header where they belong.  Right now, I don't see any of the headers I should be seeing that allow the AJAX to work.  So that is what is wrong, and that is why it works with the default template.  Concentrate on matching your template's header with the default template's header.
