I'm not sure if this plays any role in the problem, but i've just found out that the link the forum is giving for a [random] new post is:

Code:
http://www.site.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=77.0

while the same post is not showing as new in Mod RecentTopics, linking to:

Code:
http://www.site.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=77.0#new

Cheers :-)

hmmm, that isn't what I see.  What I see is the linked topic title ends with .0 and the new icon has a url with #new on the end.  Maybe that is what you are saying?  Anyways, I remember specifically setting the link title in the module to go to the new topic based on user input in the past.  I dont' think I will change it at this point unless there is enough people stating they want this feature.

There are a number of SMF scripts that check if a variable passed on the URL is simply set or not.  In a non-SEF url these look like this:
index.php?topic=7510.msg90936;boardseen#new

And SMF reads boardseen as a set variable.  However, in SEF these variables need some value otherwise they are not seen as set in SMF.  This has happened for a number of different urls so this isn't the first time.  I should have suspected something like this.  I will set topicseen and boardseen to 1 instead of topicseen, topicseen etc.  Look for this fix in the next release.  And thanks for hunting this down, sometimes I simply don't have the time or understanding of a problem to get to the root of it as quick as some of you power users.  Wink
