installing joomla-smf 2_0_RC2 by ftp

Hi
I am having problem uploading this component. We are using Joomla 1.1.10 and SMF Forum 1.0.9.
I think it is a zip extraction problem (I have turned on and off the GZip compression option in the global setting but it makes no difference. I have uploaded others OK but this no. So if I upload the files individually by ftp how do you  complete the installation process?

I have read all the posts on the forum and I think I am doing it all correctly i.e. trying to upload the com_smf_2_0.zip file but it just fails

Hi Dawn,

When you download the jsmf file you need to extract it first and then install the com_smf into your Joomla installation.

There is already a version 2.0 RC3-1 so I suggest you download and install that one.

You should also upgrade your SMF version to 1.1 RC3 because the SMF 1.0x versions are not supported with jsmf 2.0 .

Hi

Yes I have extracted it and read your installation instruction and still it fails. Thats why I uploaded via FTP but the installation is not complete - I suppose its the install.smf.php file has not been initiated. How would I do this...

What error message(s) do you get when you try to install it through the Joomla components installation ?

it justs give me the directory of where is going to upload to and says that the upload failed

If you are trying to install from local directory the local directory cannot be the target install directory, ie components/com_smf/ or administrator/components/com_smf.  That will fail.  You must install from a different directory like your home dir or tmp dir
