Unusual redirects on session timeout
« on: November 21, 2006, 03:12:53 PM »

I've recently upgraded to the 2.0 RC2 bridge for use with SMF v1.1 RC3 and so far everything is working great. There is, however, a strange redirection issue when a session times out that does not occur when using the standalone SMF forum.

A user is working on a post (either as a new topic or as a reply) and in the process the session may time out. If this were to happen in the standalone SMF forum (by this I mean using the bridge but not in wrapped mode) the user, upon clicking Preview or Post, would be redirected to a login screen where they could enter their details and, if successfully authenticated, be redirected back to the topic they were working on. However, in wrapped/integrated mode the user is redirected correctly to the login page but if they successfully login they are redirected back to an empty topic with the following error message;

Code:
The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:
Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message.
No subject was filled in.
The message body was left empty.

Additionally, I've noticed that when redirected to the SMF login page while in wrapped mode the &action=post2;start=0;board=1 portion of the query string that I would normally see in standalone mode is truncated.

Lastly, I have checked the SMF, php and apache error logs but nothing indicates what the problem might be.

I understand this is a minor issue but I can envision one of my users complaining about the fact they have written a topic of considerable length only to lose their work.

Has anyone else come across this issue and if so have you been able to work around it?

this is in the wrong board... moved

First, you should probably upgrade to RC3.  It could be the bug I found with the url handling.

Oops, my bad Tongue

Okay I've installed the new version (2.0RC3) but the problem persists. It is very easy to reproduce the issue(the bridge must be in wrapped mode);

Login, browse to the forums and reply to an existing topic. In a second browser window, open up the same site (you should already be logged in) and log yourself out. Click Preview or Post and you will be redirected to SMF's login screen. Log in and you will have a blank topic with a number of errors.

I'm guessing the topic is posted correctly but the contents of the post gets lost during the new login attempt.

thats a very good description of how to replicate, thx.  I'll run some tests and see what I can do to solve this.

Hi wolverine

Thanks for the update.

Please advise if you need further information, configuration details, etc or need me to carry out any specific testing.

Regards
