I've followed the steps to install, and even watched a flash tutorial but still can't get this. I don't know if it is the password that is stopping me or something else I'm doing wrong? Here is what I'm doing. If everyhing looks right then it must be the password.
# MySQL server name: This is where we specify the location of the MySQL database.. 99% of the time this will be localhost. In my control panel next to HOST: It says MYSQLHOST I assume this is my MySQL server name.
# MySQL username: This is the Username for your MySQL database. Often you will have to set this up in your web host's control panel. If in doubt, consult your host. In my control panel under users it says u1234678 (admin) I assume the u12345678 goes here
# MySQL password: This is the password for your MySQL database. Often you will have to set this up in your webhost's control panel. If in doubt, consult your host. (Here, put the password you need to connect to your MySQL database. If you don't know this, you should try the password to your ftp account.) Really I have no clue. I clicked on the password button it only allows me to change it. I used the one I use to connect to the ftp and still no luck.
# MySQL Database name: This is the name of your MySQL database. Often you will have to set this up in your webhost's control panel. If in doubt, consult your host. I'm pretty sure I got this one Database Name: d12345678 In the installation it already shows smf, I replace smf with d12345678
# MySQL Database prefix: This is a prefix to the table names in your database. It enables you to run more than one application on a single MySQL database. You should generally leave it as smf_, unless you are installing a second copy of SMF on the same database. I left this as smf_
Here is the install screen before I start
With the info entered, I had used the password for ftp, but that did not work either
and here is my control panel. I click on user and the second user below came up. Am I suppose to use that or the original with (admin) next to it? I blacked out the numbers because I don't know if i would pose a security risk if I show them, I assume it would.
If it is the password, and I change it, does it also change the password to my control panel?
Tom, the database name is what is in your control panel. The database user is the one that is *not* admin. And the password looks to be easily reset through that link if you are in doubt what it is. No, it should not change the password for your cpanel, but if it did simply request a new one from your host... or at least a reset. Don't be afraid of it, if you screw it up it is generally straightforward to drop the database and start again. Set the pass for your user and try that, you should be good to go from there.

Really? I thought if I messed up the database my site would be broke beyond repair. Nice to know that's not the case. Perhaps now I'll be a little more adventurous
Thanks for the reply
btw, I am the admin, I just got that second user, because I click the 'user' button earlier to see what it does and that second user popped up. Not sure if that matters?

These are a few values you can try using: MySQL server name: localhost MySQL username: it's the value you blacked out on your screen capture. The one with the (admin) beside it. (looks like it starts with "u7" ) MySQL password: for most hosts, this is usually your control panel password. If that password doesn't work, you can just reset your MySQL database password to something you can remember and enter that here MySQL database name: you mentioned you're pretty sure it's "d12345678", but to confirm, just click on the phpMyAdmin button (shown in your last screen capture) and you will be able to see your database name either on the left frame, or the top of the right frame. MySQL table prefix: if you didn't change this during your SMF installation (which you shouldn't if you want the bridge to work), it should be "smf_"
Hope this helps Rgds, Mike
