Blank screen on install of RC2
« on: November 06, 2006, 11:34:30 AM »

Hi there.
I've recently set up a Joomla site which uses iJoomla for an online magazine. I installed SMF latest version as described in the docs.  When I try to install the SMF bridge, and click the Install link, all I get is a blank page.  I've tried uninstalling the component as well as deleting com_smf from both /components and /administrator/components an re-installing but the same thing continues to happen.
There are currently no registered users on the system as we've not opened that bit up yet (no point until forums are live!).
Running latest stable release of Joomla, php 5.0.4, Apache 2.0.54, mySQL 4.1.2
Any ideas where I am going wrong?

generally blank screens are php fatal errors, check your error_log and/or turn joomla error reporting to maximum.

Well, I've looked at the error_log and there is nothing in it to suggest there is a PHP issue.  I also turned on Joomla debugging, and nothing was reported when the blank screen came up.  I've tried uninstalling the component using the Joomla uninstall option, and it reported success, but upon reinstallation (again), I still get the blank screen.  Not experienced this with any other components.

Not joomla debug, joomla error reporting.  I'm not saying your php has a problem I am saying the php may be reporting a fatal error which causes blank screens.  These are reported in the error_log.  Make sure to check both the root and administrator/error_log unless your webhost has configured a specific file for all php errors.
