another component installed in com_smf on install
« on: November 01, 2006, 04:04:40 PM »

Hey guys

I feel like my eggs are being tossed here!!!

I tried some months back to install SMF but did it through my cpanel before knowing about bridging it with Joomla. So I created a new database and it ran something shweet. Then I found out about the bridge and tried installing it in Joomla, to no avail, later realising it needed to be installed using the same database - st$p$d! Scraped that idea and uninstalled it.

I have since installed "smf_1-1-rc3_install" on the correct db, works cool! Downloaded the latest bridge - JSMF_2_0_RC2_unzip1st - unzipped it and tried to upload. It gives me the following:

"Another component is already using directory: "/home/*****/public_html /components/com_smf/""

So I checked to see if it was still installed and can't spot it anywhere (components, modules, mambots). I deleted the folder "com_smf" from my server and dropped  all smf_ tables in the database and tried again.

I had a look in the joomla config and index files to see if I could spot somethng there, but nothing....

I'm feeling really sqiff at the mo...
What am I missing? What should I do differently?

I can't seem to find anyting in the forums that relates to this so I imagine it was my doing but I would really appreciate any help! Heaven forbid I'll try phpBB.

Thanks in adv.

first of all, please put your posts in appropriate forums and topics(this is not the right one!)

if there was an error during uninstall it is possible the directories for the component are still there, and that would produce the error message you reported.  To fix it use your FTP client or command line access to delete the following directories

administrator/components/com_smf
components/com_smf

Then install again, you should be good to go.

Sorry, could one of the mods allocate it to the correct thread.

I have deleted everything and tried reinstalling - still the same problem, hence the post.

Thanks

Onc again my apologies!

i had that problem...
you should download and install component called joomlaxplorer...
then find these folders

administrator/components/com_smf

and the other one

components/com_smf

and delete them in joomlaxplorer

that should do it!
