Future Development: Poll
« on: May 05, 2005, 10:51:41 AM »

We are preparing for future development. We've been receving suggestions to integrate phplist, coppermine, and phpBB (heard a lot of major issues about the existing initiative).

Let us now what other softwares you want to be integrated to mambo and we will add it on the options for polling.

Thanks.

How about Menalto Gallery 2, actually there is one but it's not that good specially sidebar random module you could have a look and do some modifications.

My suggestion: miniBB http://www.minibb.net/
A very small, clean and fast bulletin board; I like it very much and don't think that the integration is very complicated.

Why would anyone want phpBB when they can have SMF? I have used phpBB for 3 years, but only because I didn't know about SMF - maybe that's the case for many? Will not go back to phpBB, SMF is a lot better.
Better to make some time writing better phpBB->SMF users+posts conversion tools. The one at SMF is not very feature rich.

So, I have to agree with aravot here - MenaltoGallery is the gallery for Mambo right now, and version 2 is gonna be better. There has been good integration with MGallery 1 and Mambo, but after Mambo 4.5.1a was released, there has been some issues, and this is why there really is a need for a good Mambo+MenaltoGallery integration.  Coppermine just isn't as good, unfortunately. Also, MrJeff (author of CBE)  has reported that he will be supporting MenaltoGallery, another strong point for us who want that fluid, integrated complete site. Should be a strong point.

With that said, if you want me to answer for your poll: Coppermine.
As for phplist, I think there's enough mailing functionality available already.. Mambo's com_massmail + SMF's "Mail your users" + others.

Nice to know you're not taking a break Wink

I suggest that finishing and bugfixing SMF-Joomla-Bridge should be the most important point at future developement. Joomla 1.1 has still to come in the near future and SMF 1.1 final should be release within time. So there will be a lot of changes and improvements to make the bridge ready for the future Joomla/SMF.

phplist of course! it's the component (amongst the 3) without a viable replacement. coppermine can be replaced with zoom and smf is better than phpbb anyways. portals and community sites really need a good newsletter component, and none's better than phplist, really Cheesy

The G2 bridge component from Michiel is smooth and works perfectly. There's an incompatibility between that bridge and Joomla-SMF bridge but the two authors are working to fix it in these days.
There're a plenty of G2 modules for Joomla, i can't reaaly understand why you say that's not good. I use it on my site and i'm so satisfied.
GalleryMenalto is the ULTIMATE Gallery to me. Coppermine is too phpBB style and misses a lot of featured spotted by G2 or G1.

Look HERE and HERE.

SMF rocks, there's Joomlaboard too for people that want a simpler forum so...
phpList? Really good but YaNC is good too: it support HTML, attachments.
So?

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:

1. i really need a good bridge for PhpGedView. The bridge OUT THERE but it's so immature...

2. i want that components like ExtCalendar, gigCalendar, EventsCalendar (choose one, don't care) manage both the articles and the events. I mean: EstCalendar full calendar showing both the events and links back to the articles submitted in that day.
