There are problems with Joomla-SMF bridge (v.1.1.4.2). After upgrading SMF to 1.1 RC3 and after successfull patch, entire site is not visible from Opera browser (v.9.0.1), database is converted to UTF-8. Firefox shows the content properly as well as Konqueror and Internet Explorer. If you have Opera you can see this at www.linuxo.net

If anyone has this problem, currently, it is only possible to turn off GZIP Page Compression (this can be done in Joomla Global settings - tab /Server or manually in configuration.php via FTP client)
I have successfully applied the package to upgrade from SMF 1.1RC2-1 to 1.1RC2-2, which contains (only) the security fixes from RC3. Everything seems to work fine.
I had a little bit of difficulty installing the package, but it was due to my own mistakes. I had been suppressing the SMF version number for security reasons, and the package manager would not show me the update because it could not verify the version number. Once I fixed that, it worked easily. The SMF support forum was a big help.
