Wrap a forum(with out the bridge???)
« on: June 27, 2006, 01:32:11 PM »

Hello all!
I have a question to all of you Smiley
What I want to do is to wrap a SMF forum into my site.
I don't want to share users and so on.
The problem however is that the joomla wrapper doesn't give me the possibility to automatically resize the height of the forum.
And that is a problem - the forum look not nice.
Is it somehow possible to use the bridge to acheave this? I don't want that the users are shared. The users of the forum must be independant.

Must I really install the bridge or there is a way to do that with out it?

Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue.  I don't need a bridge, but the wrapper in joomla is not autoresizing the height.

I looked at the wrapper code and I can't find what it is, and joomla.org forums are filled with similar problems.

Does anyone know how to wrap an SMF forum and have the wrapper correctly resize the heights?

thanks.

Remember that if you run SMF within the wrapper, then you are running within a  FRAME and when users click the BACK button, they wont be navigating backwards from the forum page they are on, but back to whatever page opened the forum in the first place. Your best approach (without a bridge) is to try this post

http://www.joomlahacks.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,94/topic,1061.0

There the use added Joomla calls TO his SMF forum -which was unwrapped, the logic being, if he could not get SMF in Joomla the way he wanted, he would get Joomla into SMF!

This may not work for you though because he was bridged  -that means that the bridge made the joomla environment available to the SMF code. you being IN bridged tht may not work for you....

however, it may not matter - you could make your SMF header look like your Joomla one, and you can add a side menu that when clicked, will call the joomla options, and that should work for you..

[edit] Tried the above suggestion and it worked!

You can try insert joomla template code into SMF template.. I haven't tried it, but there is an example here:

www.dmxdimension.com

http://forum.dmxdimension.com (there is no SMF bridge involved whatsoever)

That DMX dimension site is beautiful.  Thats also what I want to do.

Daniel, I think I am at the same point as you. If you figure it out, let me know!

That DMX site is using the "One More Thing" commercial template.

That template is VERY similar to the 24/7 Broad group of templates (here)
and the smf forum has the 24/7 b portal templates done and modified for joomla /SMF.

They should probably work stand alone, but if not, take a similarly colored template, add the 24/7 Broad template css to the bottom of it, then go up to the top and remove any entries that duplicate in the 24/7 css

It should take a newbie about 1 ..2 hrs proceeding slowly and carefully, 25 minutes otherwise.

Are there any prepackaged smf templates already designed to work with a joomla that I can download or buy?

I don't know anything about editing CSS files.  I just want to get my site up and running so that I can focus on the information and content of the website.
