Changed from windows to linux and getting error ...why is that?
« on: April 09, 2006, 06:13:11 AM »

I've only just discovered Joomla, got it up and running...then changed the server from wondows to Linux.

I'm now getting this message:

Warning: main(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(//nas28ent/domains/f/familyreport.co.uk/user/htdocs/includes/version.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/tmp:/usr/share/pear:/home/fhlinux210/f/familyreport.co.uk/user) in /home/fhlinux210/f/familyreport.co.uk/user/htdocs/includes/joomla.php on line 71

Warning: main(//nas28ent/domains/f/familyreport.co.uk/user/htdocs/includes/version.php): failed to open stream: Operation not permitted in /home/fhlinux210/f/familyreport.co.uk/user/htdocs/includes/joomla.php on line 71

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required '//nas28ent/domains/f/familyreport.co.uk/user/htdocs/includes/version.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /home/fhlinux210/f/familyreport.co.uk/user/htdocs/includes/joomla.php on line 71

Can anyone tell me where I've gone wrong please?

The problem is that Linux has permissions and WIndows doesnt , or, more specifically, when you are running on Windows you are generally the Administrator/Superuser whereas on a Linux installation you usually are not Sad

The directories have to be explicitly set to allow most of the operations (reading, executing programs etc) you take for granted.

Enter the CHMOD command. Use your FTP program to change the rights on those folder to 775 (almost global permissions) Not ALL webservers will allow you to change permissions freely, so you have to give 'em a call, but its a place to start
