Agreed. When I uncheck 'use subdomain independent cookies', then users can never logout from joomla or SMF. Logging out from SMF results in an error message 'cannot verify session id', and logging out from Joomla seems to work but a page refresh will log you back into the system.

lol actually what i meant is to uncheck it.

I think i have a general idea of when it'll work, and when it won't. if you installed joomla in the root, then you should uncheck it. if you installed joomla in subdirectory, then you should probably check it.
