Hi there. I have a problem with joomla-smf 1.1 beta 2.
I use windows xp sp2 (with all updates from microsoft), joomla 1.0.7 with german language file, mysql 4.1.18 and apache 2.0.55. I installed it on localhost because first I want to learn a bit more about joomla and smf.
Joomla is installed into "c:\intranet\cms" and smf is installed into "c:\intranet\forum". Both programs useing the same mysql database. And both admin accounts are called admin (with password: admin). Also both programs useing the same database-user. The root directory is "c:\intranet" and is mapped to "127.0.0.1".
I installed everything successfully (also the joomla-smf component). But when I start to configure the component i receive an error message from my internet browser that the page can not be showed. The page is "127.0.0.1/cms/administrator/index2.php?option=com_smf&task=config". But I can access joomla admin panel (127.0.0.1/cms/administrator/index2.php).
I have tryed it now on two pcs and on both I have the same problem!
What to the hell I am doing wrong?

The permissions on teh root directory of the website are not correct. They should be 755. I am almost positive that is why you are receiving this error.
Hm, but I installed it on my local pc with administrative user rights. do you know a program to set these rights as they'were set in linux?
Edit: No, nothing changed. I use ZipZilla Server and WS_FTP LE and change the rights to 755 and to 777 but in both cases nothing happen. The site is still not found.
What I can't undertand is the fact that everything else from joomla (incl. admin control panel) works fine. Also the same problem is on my own computer a few 100 miles away in my home (these days I'am at my parents home).

compare the base dir with the administrator/ dir, if they are different in terms of ownership and/or permissions that is why it is working for the other. I *think* permissions are your issue. I have this problem anytime the permissions are wrong on the base dir of any of my websites(or from what I have gathered I think it is the same problem).
Maybe you're right. I saw now that ZipZilla Server dosen't support chmod. When I restart my computer all right-changes are gone.
So first I have to find an ftp-server which supports this feature and then I told you the result. Within the windows explorer I can't set any rights on this machine (expect write-protection).
You will be able to chmod with it. In addition, if you know anything about command line usage in *nix you can download cygwin, but that is quite a large install for such a simple problem.
Omg, I use filezilla server (not zipzilla as mentioned above ). I also tested ws_ftp server. But both programs don´t support chmond on windows platforms (so everytime I tried to set the rights within ws_ftp le I failed). (I receive a message that these command is not supported).
I also set the user rights within internet explorers security tab (I could reactivate the tab) to all users (and groups) to read, write and delete. But without any success.
At the moment I try to setup the whole thing on a third machine (my notebook).
Ok now it seems to work. Only little lag left: Mostly i see only the configpage and not the joomla backend (the configpage should normaly be seen in a frame within the backend).
It seems that I have to set rights for the Mainusers-Group in Windows.
I found this while I set up everything on a third pc. And this time I was too lazy to generate a virtual host under apache. So I put all files directly under the htdocs folder. And what should I say: It worked. This folder has specific rights for Mainusers. But for other folders (like the ones on the othe two pcs) I have to add these usergroup manualy.
I am having the same issue, but I've set all permissions on all files to allow maximum permission and still get a blank frame in the backend configuration. I am using:
- Mambo 4.5.4 (readme says it should work) - J!-SMF 1.1.3 - SMF 1.1RC2
I have reinstalled the J!-SMF component several times and no luck.
One other thing I think might be useful. I have the forum installed in two locations. The one I would prefer to keep is in a subdomain of my site, but I also installed a new version on the same database in a subdirectory to see if that would correct anything, but it didn't.
I had used the component install, and it wasn't working. I went through an FTP upload and found a few of the files hadn't installed on the server as listed in the XML. I'm not sure why this happened, but after uploading all files to the proper locations, I am now able to access the configuration panel.
