Log-in problems
« on: February 09, 2006, 06:54:09 PM »

I installed Joomla-SMF-Forum 1.1, when I try to log in get the following message and can go no further.

You are not authorized to view this resource.
You need to login.

I am in fact unable to log in. I have tried Joomla log in and SMF log in modules and the problem is the same. I am unable to log in to Joomla while SMF is installed.

Joomla 1.0.7 stable
Apache 2.0.52
PHP 4.3.1
XP Pro

I was experiencing this same (or very similar) problem with Joomla 1.0.5 and the 1.0.2a version of the bridge and was unable to get it working. The bridge had previously worked faultlessly before 1.0.2a. I had CB installed at that time but have now uninstalled it to try to get the bridge working.

there has to be something unique about your setup.  Most only have an issue logging into SMF, none have an issue of not loggin in at all.  Have you patched both Joomla and SMF?  Have you synced the users?

I have patched Joomla and SMF and attempted to synch the users. This does not work (cannot synch). In order to continue using my site I have to unpatch Joomla and SMF.

The error message I recorded here was experienced by myself and other users in the previous version. If I remember correctly the way around it was to make sure that the menu item was not restricted (was public). The menu in the latest version is not restricted bur the problems are similar to those experienced in the previous version if you had restrictions on forum access through the menu.

If it could be a PHP problem I can send you my php.ini file but we run several web applications (below) on our server for our use and we do not seem to have a problem with anything except the SMF Bridge.

Joomla (php)
SMF (php)
Phprojekt (php)
Polar Helpdesk (asp using Selisoft ActiveHTML)
OWL Document Manager (php)
Gallery2 (php)
Squirrelmail (php)

Joomla and SMF share the same database but Joomla has JOS_ as its prefix and SMF has smf_ as its prefix. The others have separate databases and are not connected in any way.

I hoped the bridge would work with the latest version of SMF but the problems are almost identical to those experienced before. The main difference this time is that we are unable to log into the site at all and we are unable to synch the users.

We will try anything you suggest to get this going, being able to go directly into the forums without logging in a second time is great.

post the sync error you are getting and let's start with that.  I probably didn't see your previous message about the menus and such so if you have a link to it please post it.  I will try to take a serious look at what might be going on with your site this weekend.

There are no synch errors as such, the synch process just does not happen. You press the synch button and assume that the system has synchronised as there is nothing to say that there is a problem.

You then go to the user list and it is the same user list as before the synch, no SMF users are brought across.

I mucked about with the SMF Forum Bridge and got the synching working somehow, I don't know how it just starter working. This in turn will allow me to log into the forum board without getting the:

You are not authorized to view this resource.
You need to login.

However, when I log into the SMF Boards I am logged in as Guest only.

I have tried using both Joomla and SMF log in modules and neither work to allow a logged in user to automatically log into SMF except as Guest.

When I use the SMF log in module I am able to log in but the log out button dissapears and there is no indication that I am logged in except that registered user items are now appearing. Attached is a screen dump of the front page after logging in with SMF log in showing the SMF log in module. The private messages are not visible if the user is not logged in.
