mod_whosonline_ext number of people online increases with every page refresh

so I end up with an inordinate amound of people online. what could be causing this?

edit: this only happens in IE (not it Opera) and only when I am loged in. Whenever the page refreshes it adds a guest to who is online.

there is a known problem with Joomla sessions that causes at least some of this. Check the Joomla Forums and search for session under the developer board. You will find a thread talking about [hack] something session that is a proposed way of fixing the problem. I personally haven't implemented the hack but I plan to once I find the time.

Long story short, it isn't the module, it is a known session problem in joomla.
