Registration problem on my site
« on: March 07, 2006, 09:30:17 PM »

Hey all,

I searched the web and this site for and answer, but i can't find one Smiley. Sorry if i missed it, as i really hate it myself when people just jump in and make a thread that's been answered thouroghly. Anyway, when i try to register a new user on the standard login module for joomla 1.0.6, i get this nice error (firefox browser):

mosuser::store failed <br />Duplicate entry '0' for key 1 SQL=INSERT INTO jos_users(
'id','name','username','email','password','usertype','block','grid','registerDate','activation') VALUES (
'0','Name','Test','myemail@msn.com','05a671c66aefea124cc08b76ea6d30bb',",'1','18','2006-03-07 21:22:51','166351abbde77247d2f27531671078e9' )

(note that i used name for name, test for username, myemail@msn.com for email) Now, i'm pretty darn new to website development, and html, etc etc...  So, i have no idea what it is saying, or how to fix it. So... i am really in a hole, guys. If you've got any ideas, i'd be open to them.

Ah, and also, i've got 3 of each default module (banners, mainmenu, login, etc). Is that odd or what? Hm... and i *had* 3 logins, now i only have 2... Anyway, any ideas?

Cheers,
Unislash

if this a new, or test, site I would first reinstall.  The fact that you have 3 of anything is a clear indicator that something failed or went bad during install.  Also, post any details about software/server versions info that you can, you'll get help faster that way.

It is a relatively new site, but i've spent quite a bit of time in the short amount of days it's been up. About 2 weeks, or so, maybe 70 hours on it (i'm sure it could be done in some 15 hours, though). Version numbers... hmm... well...

PHP built On:       FreeBSD web6.hivelocity.net 4.11-RELEASE FreeBSD
                         4.11-RELEASE #0: Thu Ma i386

Database Version:     4.0.26-standard

PHP Version:             4.4.1

Web Server:             Apache

WebServer to PHP interface:    apache

Joomla! Version:     Joomla! 1.0.7 Stable [ Sunburst ] 15-Jan-2006 20:00
                         UTC

So, i'd do a reinstall, but if it could be avoided, well... i'd much rather go through 10 ideas (and learn stuff doing it) than reinstall and put back everything i've put up.

Cheers,

I agree with Wolverine, yes I hate the random reformat your hard disk type response you get from tech-support too, but here there really is no choice.

To properly debug the site going forward we HAVE to have a good "KNOWN STATE" to work from.
Installing the site clean from scratch, while somewhat tedious, IS A KNOWN QUANTITY, vs the vauge debugging that will follow if we don't.

Install the site fresh, then back it UP! there are several backup tools for joomla I would get three of them.
Joomla Explorer,

One called Backup ( BigAPE backup: Allows you to backup the entire database and EMAIL it somewhere or download it on the spot )
CONS: It doesnot allow you to pick individual tables and will thus error most of the time)

PROS: Also allows you to backup files and directories.

eBACKUP: http://mamboxchange.com/frs/?group_id=1955&release_id=5551
This allows you to pick, one by one, which tables to backup, a sweetheart of a program!

Mk, i understand. Yea... with the game i'm developing, if they don't have a completely normal installation then generally tech support is quite hard to give. So, i'll try the reinstallation and get back to you guys.
