None. Which may be part of the problem. But I really, really love the ease-of-use of SMF. Unfortunately, I also really want the 'latest forum topics' as part of my front page functionality.
What's lousy is that phpBB will do this easily, but I just don't like the forums nearly as much.
Can I use the 'latest topics' mod without actually using a bridge?
I'm off to try a RNR into the same DB as Joomla...without the bridge.
Let me know if I'm on a wild goose chase.
Oh, and thanks a ton for the time out of your schedule. I really do appreciate it.

the problem there is we are expecting some sort of bridge. I am sorry, had I seen that you weren't using any bridge before I went to bed last night I wouldn't have had you combine the db's. We need to be able to access some of the vars from the smf code... at least at this point. I'm not sure what to tell you, it may be several weeks before I can take some time and try and make this mod truly independent.

No problem, -Wolverine, I really appreciate the help you gave. I may use the bridge and try and stop the redirect to forum problem, or I may use phpBB for the time being and then switch over.

redirect to forum problem? I probably read this before, but update me, it has been a very busy couple weeks.
And along these lines, hopefully I'm not too off topic in asking where I might find out how to integrate SMF's PMS into the front page of Joomla! Meaning a link (which I can do), but also a nice little .gif or something to indicate a new message?
