sometimes joomla doesn't log out when smf does

well, I'm running smf rc1 and joomla 1.0, and I've got this problem where every once in awhile, when one user times out and is automatically logged out from smf, they will still be logged into joomla.  Then when another user logs on, the first user is still logged on in joomla.

Is there a way to syncronize them so that when one times out, they both time out?
