(SOLVED)Recent Topics Module shows 3 entries for same post
« on: December 12, 2005, 11:51:46 AM »

For me, the latest 1.5.1 of RecentTopics modded by Wolverine works like a charme, but I am having one problem:

Whenever a particular user posts, his post appears three times in the "Recent Topics" list. This is happening with all posts, but only from this one user  Grin

Any ideas?

SystemSpecs:
J! 1.0.4
J!Bridge 1.0.2a
RecentTopics 1.5.1

//edit:
I attached a screenshot of this issue.

Probably not the right topic for this, but what the hey.  I noticed this on my site for the first time last night.  You say it *only* happens for one user?

I noticed something else.  The user on my forums that this is occurring for suddenly appeared as the newest member on the SMF forums.  The issue is that he has been a member for over a year.  This seems SMF related considering he is being shown as the newest user in the forums.  I am still investigating.

Interestingly I searched for this user in the SMF administration and found 3 separate entries.  I am not sure how that happened but I can bet that is why three separate posts are showing in the Recent Topics module.  Search for the user that is shown three times on your forum and delete them in the SMF administration.

This seems to have done the trick. The user was having three accounts, too.

Thanks for your investigating!  Smiley

I have also an user who appears 3 times in the smf_members table. I can delete the two fake-entries and next time he logs on he will be added again two times. Strange... looks like a.... bug? Smiley

Doesn't sound as though this is solved then.  Also, I would like to know what is causing this to happen.  Is this caused by the mod by Wolverine?  Is this going to continue to happen?  Will I have to keep deleting duplicated users?

I can guarantee it is not caused by the module.  There is no way the recent topics module can create three user entries in the database.

Solved means it is not a recent topics module issue.  The module performs exactly as it is supposed to, by displaying all recent topics.  If there are three users linked to one post you will see three separate links in the recent topics module.

This appears to happen when users apply changes to their profiles.  It only occurs with certain users though.  It might be interesting to determine if this is related to IE or FF.  Or if it is related to wrapped forum or unwrapped etc.

Joomla 1.0.5 / SMF 1.1 RC1, latest joomla_smf bridge, registrations done from SMF, wrapped forum, user uses IE.

You're right. This is NOT a recent topics module related problem.

If you need some more informations, let me know!

Greetings

I have this issue as well, I deleted the extra accounts and the user name in question still appears a few times - created new accounts - when they post.

I think this is SMF 1.1RC1 causing this but I still haven't been able to prove that.  If you want to upgrade you can, but please note that once you upgrade to SMF 1.1RC2 there is no go back to a previous version(or so I am told).

I would definately upgrade to SMF 1.1 RC2 until all problems have been resolved. I jumped the gun about 2 months ago and have regreted it every since. There is no way to down grade SMF with out wiping out everything and starting over. I would stick with what you have and get it working then when all of the RC2 issues have been resolved I would then upgrade.

Just my 2 cents,
