1  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / style quirk with integration on: January 17, 2007, 01:28:26 AM
My site is currently in the process of being redone (I sorta hit the self-detonate on accident when I was clearing out my webspace), so I can't actually show you it, but I'll try to describe it the best I can.  I didn't see anything about it on the forum so maybe I'm just missing something.

When I made the thread to get feedback on my site, I had the following installed:
Joomla 1.0.12 (or is it 1.12? either way, it's the newest stable...not 1.5)
latest, stable CB module (I forgot the version sorry)
SMF 1.1.1

To bridge Joomla and SMF I used the 2.0.x bridge (again, the newest version).  I installed the parts in the order described like the pdf advised to.  When I was customizing the look of my site I noticed something peculiar.  The style.css file for my forum themes seemed to override everything on the rest of my site, even the modules for Joomla.

The colors for links (new, active, visited) were all modified by that style.css as were many of the text colors and styles.

My question is, is this overlap supposed to happen or did I perhaps do something unaware that created a redundant code?

I do remember seeing some process of going through a css file for comment out some codes for html and body...although I never really understood it.  Was that the cause of all this?

Edit:
I believe the MySQL on my host server is 4.x and I'm not sure what version my PHP is.
...and apparently someone doesn't like me :\ I just noticed the -1 karma.
2  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Modifying the modules and SMF forum on: January 06, 2007, 06:25:22 PM
So the last post in my 'Ream of Watching Shadow' thread was:

"Looks much better

Hide the modules @ the left off your page so the Board is show on the howl page.
And customize the header (but now you have an default Joomla and SMF theme?)

It is better to ask future support in the support boards" by Livebox

I like the suggestion and all, so the forum isn't so cramped but...how do I do that? O_o

The SMF theme I am using is at http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=126 .  It says that it is mostly based off of the default SMF theme, just darker.

The Joomla template I am using is js_empire which is found here at Joomlahacks, which has the description:

"JS Empire is a free template from JoomlaShack with a dark glossy theme. This template is fixed width 800 px optimized and supports the user1, user2, and left module positions."

I like how the two themes coincide with each other, but the squished aspect of the forum was quite...upsetting.  I would like to work out Livebox's suggestion but I don't know how to do it because of 1) it doesn't seem like the themes would support it and 2) I don't know CSS or PHP at all...

Thanks!

I do kind of like that theme I had up before (Aa New Damage) but I found a new one (Back in Black) that works rather well and its in the frame.  It seems the latter is just a dark version of the default which is fine.

How do you think this one blends in?

I guess that would be the easiest way out of this Tongue  I just hope there's another one that works well with a shadow theme...as that's kinda the whole thing about my site xD.

Any recommendations? ^_~

EDIT:  To clarify, I made this thread in hopes to obtain input on the look of the site overall.  How the colors and themes look with each other, not totally about how the forum overextends and what that portends :p

Heh, thanks.  The site still is more or less under construction but I was hoping for some input on the fitting of the themes between Joomla, SMF, and Wordpress.

I don't really know PHP or CSS that well so I think it's time to make a support thread in the proper place Tongue.

My site is located at:

http://tws.nytka.org

The link should send you to index.php which has a number of links on the left side.  One of those links is labeled 'Playground' which is the link to my forum.  When you look at it, I am sure you will notice that the right side goes quite aways past what seems to be the frame of the Joomla template.  I need some advice of how to fix that as well as any other input you might have on the site.

The default template appears ok, although the title thing at the top stretches a bit over...but this template I am using (Aa New Damage) just does not sit right.

Thanks!
