1  Joomla Hacks / Joomla-SMF 2.0.x / Re: Questions/Problems on: November 13, 2006, 12:23:27 AM
yes, and why would it be different, well J! and SMF are two different pieces of software which obviously do things differently.   If you selected UTF-8 when you installed SMF then your tables will most likely be different than J!

Using phpmyadmin you can see both the database collation(all new talbes created with this, the default) and each tables collation.
Thanks. What i'd like to know, is there any way to convert one of my tables without royally messing up any of my installs (joomla or smf). I'm going to test it on my demo site before going public.

I was wondering why my db would be different from anyone elses. I'm not using a foreign language or anything. In laymans terms, how can I fix it? Is there a way through phpmyadmin?

it could be a problem between the collations of the db tables.  Are they all the same?

What do you mean by collations?

Ok, I've deleted all users that were causing errors in syncing, but now I'm left with:
Joomla/Mambo[0] / SMF[13] inserted Failed :s : Failed : Please enter a valid Username:. No spaces, more than 2 characters and contain 0-9,a-z,A-Z C:\\Program Files\\xampp\\htdocs\\central\\administrator\\components\\com_smf\\admin.smf.class.php createjoomlauser 565

Which user is that?

1. Does  this bridge work with SMF arcade?
2. I have the latest versions of SMF, CB, Joomla and the bridge, but I get major problems on my test site. First of all, I can't login with any of my SMF accounts, I get wrong password. When I manage users, I see that every user from SMF is in CB and SMF-Joomla but for some reason they get wrong password. If I manually change a password from the CB backend, then they can login. I think it has to do with the size of my memberlist maybe? I had 1800+ users, and when I go too Joomal-SMF backend and click Install> Sync Usernames I get this error:

Request-URI Too Large

The requested URL's length exceeds the capacity limit for this server.

The URL of that error page is HUGE:

10  Joomla Hacks / Feedback / Questions about this Bridge on: November 09, 2006, 09:07:07 PM
Hey everyone, I'm considering using this bridge mainly for its support for Community Builder. I have used Orstio's Bridge before, and didn't have many problems with it, but again, it had no CB support. My site currently is run on Tinyportal (www.tinyportal.net), and I will be moving over to joomla (already mirrored on my demo site) in the near future. Over at Joomla.org forums, I saw this:

3) Cowboy's bridge from http://www.joomlahacks.com :
Originally based on an older version of Orstio's bridge, Cowboy soon re-wrote most of the code (originally for better SEF compatibility, but then he kept making improvements).  Good option for someone who wants a simple install, and can have both installed in the same database.
Advantages:

    * Full integration with CB through the use of CB plugin (including avatar synchronization)
    * Joomap integration through the use of Joomap plugin
    * Ability to select PMS of choice
    * Caches parameters and data for significant performance improvement
    * Much simpler install than Orstio's bridge (though Orstio's bridge 1.1.3 and above makes it just as easy)
    * Can migrate users from Joomla to SMF upon login, and from SMF to Joomla.
    * Work with Mambo 4.5.2.X or Joomla 1.0.X
    * SMF can be "wrapped" in Joomla, "unwrapped" (where it is still loading through Joomla, but without any of the headers, side bars, etc.)
    * Can use SMF, Joomla, or Community Builder registration.
    * Can synchronize Joomla and SMF users.
    * Mambot available with capabilities of posting a link to a related forum topic, with options of viewing the forum topic (unformatted for BBC code or smileys) in the content item. Cowboy has mentioned that he is working on all of the features in the other discussbot as well (edit 11/28/05 - it appears that the discussbot linked to above might work for the joomlhacks bridge as well).

Disadvantages:

    * Requires SMF 1.1 RC1 or higher (newest version of the bridge).
    * Requires Joomla and SMF in the same database.
    * Requires the use of standard Joomla (jos_) and SMF (smf_) table headers. No longer an issue with version 2.0
    * Modifies more Joomla and SMF files, leading to possible complications with other components/packages or with upgrades, and the possibility for an unclean uninstall.

The last disadvantage is what scares me. I plan on using several joomla components, and was wondering how common conflicts with other components are with this bridge? Are there any known examples of conflicts? Also, since this bridge syncs CB avatars etc, will it cripple my server load, since I can only afford Shared Hosting at the moment. My site currently has 1900 Members in the SMF database, and we expect up to 3000 by the end of this year.
